Scenic Arts

Over the three years I was a student at Arts University Bournemouth I assisted with the scenic arts team of many theatre productions put on in collaboration with the Acting, Costume, Makeup and Performance Design courses. Through the years I learned a wide range of different processes.

Macbeth

2024

Brownsea Open Air Theatre.

Set Designer: Kevin Wilkins

On the 60th year of Brownsea Island’s trad Shakespeare productions put on by BOAT I joined the set build crew on a voluntary basis. Here I had the opportunity to practise using a range of power tools and grew confident in pursuing scenic construction as well as painting.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream

2024

AUB, Palace Court Theatre.

Set Designers: Phoebe Morritt & Hollie Leonard

Being the props supervisor for this production, I was frequently involved with the set build and painting. I learned to fabricate lifelike scenic trees by draping fabric treated with flintex over chicken wire structures. I also took the lead on creating moss patches out of an old carpet which was dyed, cut into organic shapes, trimmed and painted by me and a small team I assembled.

La Casa Nova

2024

AUB, Palace Court Theatre.

Set Designer: Izzy Creswell

Scenic Supervisor: Frankie Roberts

For this grandiose 18th century Venetian theatre set featuring hand-painted frescos, a tremendous amount of help was needed. I was involved with helping map the large paintings with a grid system, creating the brick wall out of vacform & styrofoam and with a lot of painting, from the largest surfaces to the finest details.

Macbeth

2023

AUB, touring production in schools around Dorset.

Set Designer: Maisie Perkins

Scenic Supervisor: Izzy Creswell

I helped create a concrete texture on flats by going over the base with a darker color using a foam roller with holes cut into it. I later put words on the flats sponging on paint over lasercut lettering stencils.

The Wolves of Willoughby Chase

2023

AUB, Studio Theatre.

Set Designer: Cassie Winterborne

Scenic Supervisor: Alice Drury

I learned how to work with vaccum form textures by cutting the sheets into shape and stapling onto the wood structure. I also painted a lot of surfaces varying shades of gray.

Spring Awakening

2023

AUB, Studio Theatre.

Set Designer: Seren Purchase

Scenic Supervisor: Cassie Winterborne

I helped paint big wooden crosses black and decorated them with a white border with flintex. I also helped prepare the raked stage floor for painting with an orbit sander and later painted it.

Salt: A Community Play

2022

Angel Exit, The Lighthouse.

Puppet Designer: Heidi Steller

In an accelerated workshop setting I helped make a giant sea creature puppet, operated by 10+ people in performance. We formed a head shape out of willow branches, paper and tape, and then sculpted with worbla, a heat activated plastic material, directly on top.

Midnight Atlanta

2022

The Lighthouse, Poole.

Set Designer: Caitlin O’Hagan

I assisted the designer with painting the scenic flats with metallic spray paint as well as installing and dressing the set at the theatre.

Gut Girls

2021

AUB, Studio Theatre.

Set Designer: Megan Lloyd

Scenic Supervisor: Izzi Cohen

I was involved with making props for this play including pig carcasses made out of EVA foam covered in fabric & flintex and internal organs made out of stockings filled with polyester filling.

We Burn Brightly

2021

AUB, Pavillion South West.

Set Designer: Orlan Sharman Dunn

Scenic Supervisor: Ellis Milton

My first ever time at a scenic studio I learned how to woodgrain using a rubber graining tool, I also helped transform the look of a table with carved styrofoam.
