The Ballad of Maria Marten

I designed a speculative set for a theatre production telling the story of Maria Marten, the unfortunate victim of the sensationalized true story of ‘the red barn murder’. A play set in 1820s rural Suffolk, a story very much informed by the landscape, my set design prioritizes immersing the audience in the time and place, conveying a sense of hopelessness surrounded by a barren, flat land.
